We all want permission to paint without hesitation.

Consider this an invitation to my art studio… here’s some coffee, pull up a chair, let’s chat and maybe paint together if you’re up for it :)

The Wisdom of Watercolor is where I put all the things my watercolor practice teaches me… where I thread together all the thoughts I have while painting - and all the questions I get asked by my students.

By subscribing, you will get a sneak peek into my process for creating patterns and finished paintings, along with links to my favorite supplies. You will see what I’m pinning to my inspiration board (*hint* it’s most likely from the interior design and fashion world). And you’ll hear honest conversations with my favorite Austin based artists/makers/creatives in my series “Good Gifts Take Time”.

Upgrading to become a paid subscriber not only helps support me as an artist trying to make a living in late-stage capitalism, but also gives you access to our 5-day creative intensives held every shift in season.

For five days during every Equinox or Solstice you’ll receive an email with a very specific lesson pulled from my bag of creative prompts, technique demos or full on video tutorials. Each lesson builds on the last, and is curated to help you transition into the next season.

Upgrade your subscription to paid (monthly or annual) to join the next 5-day intensive.

My Why…

I started painting hoping to have a creative outlet that lets me relax. I was a newly minted mom and the world seemed completely upside down… there was no longer space for capital “M” Me… who was I anyway?

After years of painting (and another sweet lil’babe) I began to realize the connection between the challenges of my creative practice and the challenges I went through in life.

I became really curious *obsessed* with the technical skill needed to execute watercolor with confidence, but also the intuitive skillset necessary to respond to what watercolor does on the page. Watercolor gave me a safe, low-stakes, way to work with all the challenges I was facing through huge life transitions. Challenges like perfectionism, self-doubt, overly critical thinking… the list of emotional vices goes on and on.

In essence the greatest gift my watercolor practice gave me, was a confidence to trust my intuition.

In my workshops I now get to witness students start to lean into their inclinations ~ their natural style ~ and shift their energy towards confidence and ease.

I teach because I am passionate about watercolor, but also because every time I get to help guide someone through the inevitable challenges to a place of fluidity, I revisit those first feelings of self-trust.

The real bio…

Jaime is a working artist based in Austin, Texas. She graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Interior Design and a minor in creative burnout. Seeking a deeper connection with her body, she went on to dedicate the next 10 years of her life to studying Yoga and Meditation with some of the top teachers in North America.

She started painting while pregnant with her first child and quickly realized her watercolor practice provided a safe space to remember herself, loosen the tendency for control and regain a quiet mind space. Because of this she dedicated any free moment she could (with two kids) to her paints.

Jaime offers artwork and experiences that encourage a deeper connection with your perfectly imperfect nature.

Community principles & values

Cultivating a kind and supportive community

Creating a safe and inclusive community within the artistic process is something I value deeply. My painting classes and retreats are for individuals of all artistic levels—and I strive to create a space that fosters and encourages collaboration, exploration and an openness to unique perspectives and diverse lived experiences. The same can be applied to this substack ~ open to everyone and a champion of kindness.
